The son of a vaudeville entertainer, Dion DiMucci's debut 45, The Chosen Few, was a local hit backed by the maudlin Timberelanes, prompting him to form the more authentic Belmonts with friends from his Bronx neighborhood. Numerous hits followed, including A Teenager In Love and Where Or When, and despite his heroin addiction, solo work was even bigger, the million-seller, Runaround Sue, topping the US pop charts in late 1961, followed by signature tune The Wanderer. The resultant Runaround Sue LP is quintessential Dion, his strong tenor tackling a range of cover tunes, as well as inspired originals like Lonely World, capturing the man at his confident best, approaching his peak period of stardom.
